UIPM Executive Board meeting and Congress begins after press conference

The Executive Board of the Union International de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) got together today for 2-days of talks in Limassol, on the south coast of Cyprus, as a precursor to the 2013 Congress which begins on Friday. Hosted by the Cyprus Modern Pentathlon Biathlon Federation at the Mediterranean hotel under the guidance of their President and secretary General of the National Olympic Committee General Charalambos Lottas and the team at Top Kinisis, the event is set to welcome delegates from over 40 nations.

The Press conference, held at the Cyprus Olympic Committee headquarters in the capital Nikosia, saw General Lottas welcome the UIPM family to the country and hoped they would enjoy the hospitality. He stated, “It is with great pleasure to have UIPM in Cyprus again after the outstanding success of the Biathle Triathle World Championships. Modern Pentathlon is such a historic sport, especially if you think that the first ever Ancient Greek Games pentathlon champion was Lampis of Sparta, and we are delighted to be able to welcome all the delegates in Limassol.”

UIPM President Dr h. c. Klaus Schormann praised the organisation, declaring, “The Biathle Triathle was brilliant and organised at such short notice. It gave me such faith in the Federation. Cyprus is very active with their development and we want to support our emerging nations. We have many things to discuss at our Congress but there is a big focus on our development”.

The 2013 Congress agenda includes reports by the President and all Executive Board Members as well as the Chairs of the various Committees.
