UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann visited the UIPM 2018 Pentathlon Junior World Championships in Kladno, near to the Czech capital of Prague, together with Executive Board Member Aya Medany (Chair of UIPM Athletes Committee). He had various meetings with Bohumil Hrudka, President of the Czech Modern Pentathlon Association, and Secretary General Lucie Grolichova.


With Aya Medany he discussed important steps regarding information systems for athletes and special supportive actions on the way to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.


The UIPM President had a long and deep discussion with Radka Hajkova, UIPM Medical & Anti-Doping Manager, covering athletes, coaches and National Federations in general. They discussed more direct ways of sharing information and educational measures against doping and harassment among other issues.
President Schormann briefed Florent Boas, UIPM Media Manager, on new possibilities of promotion for Modern Pentathlon before, during and after UIPM’s showpiece competitions.


There will be a special focus on the UIPM Pentathlon World Championships in Mexico City (MEX) and the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires (ARG) in October 2018. UIPM Competitions Manager Philipp Waeffler and Aya Medany joined these meetings.

President Dr Schormann joined Prof Dr Hans Michael Ockenfels (Chair of UIPM Doping Review Panel) at the
Come Together Ceremony of the business, culture and political society of Hesse, hosted by the TOP Magazine of Frankfurt/Main.

During his visit to the 18th Asian Games, UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann engaged in a series of high-level discussions with fellow members of the Olympic sports community, including Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and IOC Member.
Dr Schormann presented medals to the winners of the women’s 100 metres (athletics) and women’s under-62kg (ju-jitsu).


Dr Schormann had a working session with the Lord Sebastian Coe, President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), to discuss ideas and strategies for future events, and how to place showpiece events in well-known cities.


On August 19 and 20 the UIPM President and Secretary General Mrs Fang attended the OCA General Assembly, where they discussed Modern Pentathlon matters with various National Olympic Committee and Confederation Presidents from other sports.

On August 22, President Dr Schormann met with Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah to discuss important points for the coming years linked to the Modern Pentathlon programme in the 19th Asian Summer Games 2022 in Hangzhou (CHN) and the next Asian Beach Games, which will take place in 2020 in Sanya (CHN). They discussed issues of sporting politics in Asian sport and in the wider world and Olympic movement.


At the show jumping on August 28, Dr Schormann met the IOC Member and International Equestrian Federation (FEI) President, Ingmar de Vos. On the same day he had a meeting with equestrian parcour designer Olaf Petersen to discuss close cooperation for the next two years including the Olympic Summer Games Tokyo 2020.


In the evening the UIPM President was invited to a special dinner by the International Judo Confederation of Asia to honour Marius Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation (IJF).


The itinerary for the next day included the opening ceremony of the Modern Pentathlon facility at the Adria Pratama Mulya School.


President Dr Schormann gave a special speech and planted a symbolic tree in accordance with one of the traditions of UIPM.


On August 30, also in Jakarta, UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann and Secretary General Mrs Shiny Fang had a very important meeting with Gou Zhongwen, Sport Minister of China and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee.


They had a fruitful discussion about the UIPM 2020 Pentathlon World Championships in Xiamen, the UIPM 2020 Congress in China and the close cooperation of Modern Pentathlon with other sporting federations in the country.


They discussed the arrangement of a workshop in Beijing in the UIPM academy in the near future. Mr Gou is also hoping to get UIPM involved in more multi-sport programmes across China and work with various sports together to help on youth sports education.


After the meeting with China’s Sport Minister, Dr Schormann had a meeting with the President of the Philippine Olympic Committee, Ricky Vargas, as well as the President of the Philippine Modern Pentathlon Association, Richard Gomez.


The main topics were the development of UIPM Sports in the Philippines based on Laser Run, Biathle and Triathle competitions and Beach Games. They also discussed the visit of President Schormann in Manila.


President Dr Schormann also attended the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC) Assembly on August 30 and gave a briefing of UIPM activities throughout 2018.


The UIPM President was accompanied at various meetings and receptions by Namdev Shirgaonkar, Deputy Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association and Secretary General of the AMPC.


They attended receptions hosted by from the Olympic Committees of Japan, Qatar, Korea and Saudi Arabia as well as a reception of Rita Subowo in honour of International Olympic Committee President Dr Thomas Bach and Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Al-Sabah.


The 18th Asian Games in Jakarta (INA) was very successful for Modern Pentathlon. UIPM President Schormann together with Secretary General Mrs Shiny Fang attended the pentathlon competition, hosted in a first-class facility of the Adria Pratama Mulya School, the first and only school in Indonesia that combines national and equestrian curriculum.


All five disciplines were arranged in this school complex and it was the first international competition organized by Modern Pentathlon Indonesia. President Anthony Charles Sunarjo and his team presented the best conditions for all disciplines.


The founder and owner of the private school, Triwatty Marciano and her husband, arranged first-class horses and built a 25m pool especially for the Asian Games.
