UIPM President’s statement: HM Queen Elizabeth II

Across all global societies, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was respected and loved, and our UIPM Sports movement was no different.

Few could fail to be impressed by Her Majesty’s dedication to her public service as Sovereign to the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth, and we have lost a very special monarch who touched all of our lives in some way during her 70 years on the throne. She enjoyed the special distinction of being the only person to have opened two Olympic Games, Montreal 1976 and London 2012.

Modern Pentathlon has benefited from the support of the Royal Family for a long time. Her Majesty’s late husband, Prince Phillip, was Patron of Pentathlon GB for 63 years, and her only daughter, HRH Princess Royal, plays an important role as a Member of the International Olympic Committee and Honorary President of the British Olympic Association. Her Royal Highness is a close friend to Modern Pentathlon.

I would like to thank all UIPM Sports community members and partners who attended our Technical Meeting in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy on the evening of Her Majesty’s passing, and shared in a minute’s silence.

On behalf of the global UIPM family, our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this sad time.
