What we do: Meet the UIPM Technical Committee 2025-2028
Behind every decision made by a judge in a UIPM competition is a body of expertise responsible for making sure the rules of the sport are correctly and fairly administered.
But who are these people, and what do they do?
The UIPM Technical Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and evolution of UIPM competitions. Its members are appointed as Technical Delegates for major UIPM events, overseeing the application of rules and ensuring fair play. The committee is also responsible for proposing updates to competition rules and equipment regulations, continuously refining the sport’s technical framework. Additionally, it supervises the work of International Judges worldwide, ensuring consistency and high officiating standards across all competitions. A key focus is the development of new formats, as demonstrated by the recent introduction of the Obstacle Discipline, which marks a significant step in the modernisation of our sport.
The Technical Committee provides the Executive Board with a report on technical matters concerning UIPM Sports and comprises a Chairperson and 12 persons of differing nationalities. The Chairperson is the Executive Board Member for Sport. Six members of the Technical Committee are elected by the General Assembly and six members of the Technical Committee are appointed by the Executive Board.
Having taken over from the long-serving Montreal 1976 Olympic champion Janusz Peciak (Poland), UIPM Executive Board Member for Sport Andrea Dell’Amore (Italy) now supervises the Technical Committee. He was elected by UIPM 2024 Congress and chaired a meeting of all 13 members in Nice (FRA) ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
The meeting was attended by Changsik An (Korea), Ali Assem (Egypt), Agnes Kulcsar (Hungary), Rui Lucena (Portugal), Ana Ruth Orellana (Guatemala), Leonid Zimarev (Kazakhstan), Rafael Acosta (Argentina), Corine Bouzou (France), Michele Di Berardino (Italy), Edyta Maloszyc (Poland), Zhenhua Qian (China) and Sergio Salazar (Mexico).
Andrea Dell’Amore said: “I am very satisfied with the composition of the team. We are a group of friends, and there is a great sense of harmony and calm, which is the best foundation for working well together.
“Almost all the Members are highly experienced, either from being already part of the Technical Committee or long-standing International Judges. During our first meeting, I managed to produce an in-depth study of the TD’s responsibilities and an analysis of the new rules and regulations. The interaction between the Members has been fantastic, with many creative ideas and proposals exchanged.”
