World Cup #1 Cancelled

Modern Pentathlon

After conferring with the athletes and with conditions in Acapulco unfavourable to the health of the horses, the decision has been taken to cancel the remainder of World Cup #1. There will now be no Men’s Final or Mixed Relay.

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann stated, “With the well-being and health of horses the highest priority for both the Union and athletes, we must prematurely end the competition. After much discussion, the consensus has been that we could not and should not continue”.

“I would like to thank the athletes for their respect and sportsmanship, it would not have been fair to go ahead. We are a sport that strongly promotes animal welfare and the conditions were less than ideal for the horses”, he added.

The points of the next three World Cup Series event in Egypt, China and Hungary will now count towards qualification to the World Cup Final in Sarasota-Bradenton, USA.
