UIPM News

The 69th Congress of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) will take place in three weeks’ time (November 24-26) and anticipation is growing in the host city of Tbilisi (GEO).

The annual gathering of UIPM’s global membership will be hosted for the first time by the Modern Pentathlon and Triathlon Federation of Georgia, whose officials have been working closely with Mamuka Khabareli, Vice-President of the Georgian Olympic Committee, as well as officials from City Hall and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “UIPM has entrusted the Georgian Federation with hosting the 2017 UIPM Congress based on its strong organization under the leadership of Dr Viacheslav Malishev, who is also the UIPM Executive Board Member for Development.

“The Federation organized a very successful Biathle/Triathle World Championships in Batumi in 2015 and the UIPM Family is looking forward to another trip to Georgia for this year’s Congress and Executive Board meeting.”

The UIPM Congress gives member federations an opportunity to hear reports on the activities of all UIPM bodies throughout the season and to discuss matters relevant to the administration of UIPM Sports, including competitions and development.

The Congress also includes features such as the UIPM Annual Awards, which recognises outstanding athletes, coaches and events, decisions on motions submitted and future dates.

Dr Viacheslav Malishev said: “For the Georgian Modern Pentathlon Federation it is a big honour and responsibility to host UIPM’s annual Congress.

“For many delegates it will be a first visit to the fast-growing tourist destination of Georgia. Together with the Georgian Olympic Committee, Ministry of Sport and City Hall we are preparing intensively and we will do our best to deliver a good event.”

The 69th UIPM Congress (25-26.11.17) will be held at the Hualing Hotel in Tbilisi. Members of the media who wish to be accredited should contact Nana Chargeishvili at media.mptnf.ge@gmail.com.
