Germany's Zillekens and Dogue claim Team Relay gold at Junior Worlds

German pair of Christian Zillekens and Marvin Dogue won the men's competition at the Junior World Championships in Drzonków. The podium was completed by Belarussians and Koreans in second and third respectively.

In fencing the best of the 16 relays was the pair of Belarus Kirill Kasyanik and Ilya Palazkov, who won 23 bouts. In second place four teams were classified as they all claimed 18 wins – Joseph Choong and Thomas Lees of Great Britain, Jhonnatan Ortega and Saul Rivera of Mexico, Woongtae Jun and Mingyu Choi of Korea and Jorge Imeri and Miguel Menendez of Guatemala.

The fastest team in the water was a British duo with the time of 1:48,53. Second Belarussians were 2,04 secs slower while third Russians Alexander Kukarin and Viacheslav Bardyshev lost 3,03 secs to them. In the overall classification the lead was kept by Kasyanik and Palazkov ahead of Brits and Koreans.

In riding none of the teams, as well as yesterday, achieved the maximum result of 300 points. The best pair in this discipline were Shuhuan Li and Linbin Zhang of China who gained only 12 penalty points. Four points more were lost on the parcour by Belarussians who increased their lead over the rest of the stake. Second position was saved by Brits while Mexicans went up to third.

To the combined event Kasyanik was starting over a minute before the rest of the stake. He did his job well, but his teammate Ilya Palazkov made two very poor shootings and was overtaken by Marvin Dogue of Germany on the last visit at the range. After running 800m Dogue could celebrate the triumph with Christian Zillekens. I think it was the mistake of Belarus. We shoot well, about 12 seconds every time and if they shoot 50 seconds they couldn’t be no. 1. – said Dogue at the finish line. We were a little bit lucky today. The Belarus was not so good at shooting but our combined was very good so a perfect day, I think. – added Zillekens.

After the backs of Germans and Belarussians there was a fight for a bronze. At the beginning the Mexicans were main candidates, but Saul Rivera made not so good at his leg. The final fight was held between Woongtae Jun of Korea and Joseph Choong of Great Britain. At the last meters the Asian was better and it was he and his teammate Mingyu Choi who took the last place on podium.
