From October 24th to 28th UIPM conducted in Santo Domingo a Level 1 Coaches Course. The Dominican Republic Modern Pentathlon Federation hosted the classes with 18 coaches from different parts of the country at the Olympic National Training Center. One of the most influential members of the Slovak Modern Pentathlon Association, Vladimir Cerny, passed away on October 30, 2016 at the age of 90.
Mr Cerny became an Olympian in Melbourne in 1956 when he competed for Czechoslovakia, which he also did at numerous World Championships.
He went on to be a senior administrator of the sport, first with the Czechoslovakian Modern Pentathlon Federation and, in 1968, when he was elected to the Executive Board of what was then UIPMB: the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne et Biathlon.

The World Modern Pentathlon Coaches Conference proved to be a huge success once again as over 90 delegates from 18 national federations shared valuable insights into the sport and working practices last weekend. The conference, organised by Pentathlon GB, continues to go from strength to strength with the world governing body, the UIPM, providing support during both the planning stages and during the conference this year.

Dr Klaus Schormann was re-elected as President of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) after receiving a unanimous show of support at the 68th UIPM Congress.
Dr Schormann (GER) has been at the head of the global Modern Pentathlon movement since 1993 and has overseen a profound series of changes in the core Olympic sport and the wider UIPM movement, which now consists of six sports and offers a pathway to the Olympic Games for any aspiring pentathlete in the world.
