The XIII Masters World Championships in Modern Pentathlon and Tetrathlon 2014 took place in Berlin’s historic and beautiful Olympic Stadium from September 17-21.
More than 120 athletes from 23 nations competed across mixed relay, individual and team competitions, 70 registering for the Modern Pentathlon competition and the rest challenging each other over Tetrathlon.
Hundreds of international athletes - a great number of whom participated in all competitions - from across the globe amazed spectators with their stamina, determination and passion over three days of competition as they pushed themselves to the limit in this Biathe / Triathle World Championships 2014 held at the Naval Academy of Puerto San Jose, from October 8th-10th.
The first day of competition in the Central American and Caribbean Games started with the women’s modern pentathlon event. The winner of the first gold medal in modern pentathlon was Leydi Laura Moya of Cuba with 1314 points. She was able to hold off three Mexican athletes by posting the fastest combined event with a time of 13.10, based on nearly perfect shooting series. Tamara Vega of Mexico came from fifth place and with a time of 13.16 in the combined event she climbed up all the way into the silver medal position.
A crowd of nearly 3,000 spectators came out to watch the second modern pentathlon event in the Central American and Caribbean Games. They were treated to an exciting combined event that saw the top six competitors change positions several times during the competition. Ismael Hernández of Mexico, who was in the fourth position after three events, was able to pull away in the final two rounds as he maintained his concentration and had nearly perfect shooting rounds that combined with his excellent running ability were enough to conquer a very difficult field.
Excitement was at fever pitch for the final day of the Central American and Caribbean Games with the Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Relay events bringing four days of superb competition to a close.
The Women’s Relay got the action underway and the crowd certainly weren’t disappointed at the top class field on display.
The Guatemalan team of Sophia Hernandez and Ximenia Dieguez (GUA) made a very strong start winning the Fencing competition and maintained their dominance throughout the Swimming and Riding to hold a 19 second advantage heading in to the Combined Event.
AFTER several months of preparations, Modern Triathle has made a triumphant debut at the 4th edition of the Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand.
Sixteen teams from 10 countries took part in what was a thrilling and popular event under the sun of Nai Yang, including four nations - Philippines, India, Mongolia and the host country Thailand - taking part in Beach Modern Triathle for the first time.
The success of this format at continental level now gives the sport a strong platform on which to develop ahead of the next Asian Beach Games in Nha Trang, Vietnam in 2016.
Modern Pentathlon continues to evolve with the establishment of a new and exciting Fencing format. The Fencing Bonus Round will be established in the 2015 season after winning the approval of a huge majority of delegates at the sport's 2014 Congress in Sofia, Bulgaria, from November 29-30.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has today honoured six women for their remarkable contribution to women’s participation, both on the field of play and within sports administration. The IOC 2014 “Women and Sport” trophies were presented at a ceremony held during the 127th IOC Session in Monaco.
