The first edition of the International Federations Educators Course took place in Tokyo, Japan, from December 7 to 9. Promoted by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), the course was held in close collaboration with the Japan Sports Council and the Olympic Solidarity. It was addressed to twenty experts from eight International Federations and UIPM was represented by Alexandre França (BRA) and Ichiro Tomyasu (JPN).
Alexander Lesun, the Rio 2016 men’s Olympic Modern Pentathlon champion, has been named as Russia’s Athlete of the Year.
The 28-year-old’s achievements were recognised at an annual awards ceremony on December 14 at the Ministry of Sport, where he also received the “Pride of Russia” award.

The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) today announced the appointment of UK-based Pro-Active Broadcast to manage and distribute the broadcast and webstream output from their World Cup and World Championship events during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Pro-Active will be responsible for the creation and distribution of highlights programmes from all rounds of the UIPM World Cup including the World Cup Final, as well as the Senior World Championships.

The achievements of the world’s leading senior and junior pentathletes, the best team, the best coach, competition organisers were recognised in the UIPM Annual Awards for 2016, handed out at the 68th UIPM Congress in December 2016 in Frankfurt (GER).
The following awards were distributed based entirely on the criteria of points gained from results in UIPM competitions during the calendar year and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games:
Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr has been elected 1st Vice-President of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) at the first full meeting of the new Executive Board.
Mr Samaranch (ESP) became a Vice-President of Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2016 and now takes up the most senior office in the UIPM Movement beneath the Presidency. He succeeds Ivar Sisniega (MEX).

Modern Pentathlon will be beamed out live on TV across Europe this summer after the UIPM signed a contract with continental network Eurosport.
The agreement will include the 2017 World Cup Final in Vilnius (LTU) in June and the Senior World Championships in Cairo (EGY) in August, where the finals will be broadcast live to a vast audience of sports fans across Europe and beyond.
