With the development of athletes in the Asian region continuing at great pace with some impressive results on the international stage, the AMPC held its first training camp of the year in Korea from 3-18 June with over 50 participants taking part.
Four countries were represented this time around with athletes from the Guandong province in China, from Japan, Chiese Taipei and hosts Korea with the camp held at Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps (called Sangmu in Korea) in Mungyeong, Korea, which will also be the venue for the CISM 2015 World Championships.
Samantha Murray and Joe Choong both successfully defended their titles at the GB Open Modern Pentathlon Championships in Solihull this weekend. Murray, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, came home first in the women’s competition to retain both the GB Open title and the British Championship crown. 19-year-old Choong also retained his GB Open title and won the British Championship title after winning the junior title last time around.
With UIPM pushing its global development initiatives with the 'Sport for All' ideal, Modern Pentathlon is now being introduced to new regions and this weekend saw the Open Central Asian Cup held in Kyrgyz capital Bishkek. This competition brought together athletes from the hosts nation Kyrgyzstan and neighbours Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to develop their skills. One athlete from South Africa was also present.
As with youth competitions, there were four disciplines, fencing, swimming and the combined run/shoot.
Held in Perpignan, in the south of France, the second edition of the Trophee Ulysse Open Youth Mediterranean Cup was a resounding success with a huge number of young participants taking part and getting their first experience of competitive Modern Pentathlon.
Double Olympic modern pentathlete Nick Woodbridge is set to compete at his first event for almost a year when he represents Great Britain at next week’s European Championships in Hungary.
Woodbridge was struggling with a hip injury ahead of last year’s World Championships in Chinese Taipei in August but came home with a silver medal. His return to action at the Europeans in Székesfehérvár follows surgery in February.

After stepping down as President of the German Modern Pentathlon Federation (DMFV), a post which he held for 30 years, Dr h. c. Klaus Schormann, current President of UIPM, was this weekend elected as an Honorary President for life following the Executive Board meeting.
Dr Schormann had also been on the Executive Board of the DMFV for over 40 years.
The next President of the DMVF is now Olaf Kleidon, President of the LV Bavaria, who was elected unanimously.
UIPM is pleased to announce the final list of 48 pentathletes that have qualified for this summer's 2nd edition of the Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Nanjing, China, from 16-28 August.
