The qualification period for Modern Pentathlon at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games closed with the conclusion of the Men’s Individual Final at the UIPM 2021 Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships in Cairo (EGY) on June 13.
A total of 51 automatic quota places have been earned by athletes hoping to win selection by their National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to compete at Tokyo 2020 – 26 for the Women’s Individual event and 25 for the Men’s Individual event.

The 72 athletes who will compete in Modern Pentathlon at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have been named by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM).
The Olympic Games are now firmly in our thoughts but I want to pay tribute to all the UIPM delegates, officials, local organisers and the UIPM staff team who made it possible for our wonderful athletes to fulfil their dreams of competing in Tokyo.
Trust me, it is no small achievement to have staged five Olympic qualification competitions in 2021 and, not only that, to have staged successful events!
The revival of the Global Laser Run City Tour, UIPM’s most dynamic development mechanism, continued in June 2021 with events taking place in four countries.

The UIPM Executive Board (EB) has agreed to postpone the UIPM Masters Committee elections to 2022 so that the process can take place during the next UIPM Masters World Championships.
In 2020, after the postponement and cancellation of almost all UIPM activities, the EB decided to extend the term of all elected bodies so that elections could take place during competitions in 2021 or the UIPM 2021 Congress, which is scheduled for November.
