UIPM pays tribute to Héctor Bedolla Guerrero, a highly respected figure in Mexican sport whose lifelong contribution to swimming and Modern Pentathlon left a lasting legacy as an athlete, coach, leader and educator.
Born in 1957, Bedolla began his sporting career as a swimmer representing the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, where he achieved multiple national and international successes, establishing himself as a leading figure in competitive swimming.
UIPM joins the Bavarian Modern Pentathlon community in mourning the passing of Gerd Werner, who died on April 5 at the age of 79 following a long illness.
Born on March 4, 1947, Werner was one of the defining figures of Modern Pentathlon in Bavaria and a trailblazer for the sport in Germany. He made history in 1976 when he became the first Bavarian pentathlete to compete at the Olympic Games, representing his country at 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
UIPM 1st Vice President, Kitty Chiller, has received special recognition with the award of Life Membership by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Olympic Movement and sport.
The honour, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the AOC, acknowledges a lifetime of service spanning more than four decades as an Olympian, sports administrator and international leader. Chiller will formally receive the award at the AOC Annual General Meeting on May 2.
