The early days of 2025 have come and gone and some new year’s resolutions may already be wavering. But the Modern Pentathlon world is fully focused on goals for the year ahead.
That’s because 2025 is not just a new year but the first year of a new Olympic cycle. And while January may be a quiet time of pre-season preparation, the action will soon begin. Here are five reasons to be very excited about what 2025 has to offer…

The Executive Board (EB) of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) has appointed a wide range of experts to serve on UIPM Commissions throughout the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
Every sport has its legends. They are heroes and icons whose impact on their game is often only fully realised once they’ve gone.
That was never quite the case for Laura Asadauskaite, however. Such was her unceasing brilliance during a career which saw her compete at the elite end of Modern Pentathlon for well over two decades, it was impossible to ignore the Lithuanian wonder as she built her legacy in real time.
Behind every decision made by a judge in a UIPM competition is a body of expertise responsible for making sure the rules of the sport are correctly and fairly administered.
But who are these people, and what do they do?
Behind every athlete is a coach taking responsibility for every aspect of the high-performance environment that surrounds them.
But who supports the coaches in maintaining their own high standards of performance?
The UIPM Coaches Committee supports the education of coaches and athletes, prepares coaching clinics and seminars, and elaborates proposals on training, sport and other matters of interest to coaches for consideration by the Technical Committee and Executive Board.
There is a time for talking and there is a time for action. In any effective sports governing body, they happen in that order.
Four days of Executive Board and Committee meetings in Nice at the beginning of February, four weeks before the action of the competition season begins, enabled the UIPM community to discuss a lot of concerns, wishes and demands.
